Not Just Another Day in the City of Brotherly Love
The sun is setting, meaning New Years' Celebrations are about to start, meaning business for the cape crowd. "You know Jesse, the longer I'm here, the more I think you steered us in the right direction."
no subject
Jesse watched clumps of revelers drift down the sidewalks, trying to judge trouble before it got to far.
no subject
"Let's go."
no subject
"You'd think we'd have got the message through not to shoot guns off into the air. The bullets will come down somewhere, and it make us fliers unhappy."
Jesse looked down at a clump of people on the corner, before continuing. "Please let that be celebratory. The night is going to be long enough as is."
no subject
"Troia to available Titans. Nightclub gang fight. Unknown number civilians and combatants inside. Requesting some back up."
no subject
Jesse floated down outside the one door, grabbed two obviously panicked club goers, and became a red blur.

She does stop to say a few words to Donna. "I can pull the smoke out so you can see clearly, but they'll be able to see you, and each other. Want me to?"

As she circled, she thought I hope the visability means that the guys with guns won't hit as man civilians accidentally. But, these guys are shooting in a night club. They don't care that much. I just hope they don't start aiming for me. I'd hate for someone to get hit because they're in my arms.
Once most of the smoke had cleared Jesse shouted toward Donna. "You're keeping their attention. We'll get backup. I can only get so far in. It's like pinball at any speed."
no subject
"Yo! Five-O."
"Worse! Lady capes!"
"Aw fuck this!" Many of them stop shoot and start to scatter. Sadly, that leaves the bolder ones, the ones who have delusions of becoming a legend in the Philadelphia underworld.

Jesse kept her focus on the only intentional door, clearing the hall down to the dance floor of people. She was almost the the point where she would have a free run at the shooters. She just had to clear the last few people who had frozen in shock.
no subject
"Stand down!"
Some of the morons are running because they're out of bullets. Others are shooting as a way to cover themselves on their way out.
no subject
"Ouch! Stupid. I'm okay."
Anyone still shooting got their gun taken. If they pulled out another one, she's take that, too. She put them in a pile outside the hole in the wall, where Donna could keep an eye on them.
Then she went to guard her door and keep the rats in until the police showed up.

"How's your hands?"
no subject
She looked at her hands some more. "I actually think one of the girl's spiked bracelets was worse. She got me when I picked her up."
Jesse looked up. "How are you?"
no subject
"The usual. Bruised from a night's work and looking forward to going home. School break and all." Meaning she actually has Roy and Lian home and not up to their eyeballs in homework. Miracle of miracles.
no subject
"Are we done? Did I miss the metaphorical ball falling? Or does going out with you mean I get to actually sleep tonight?"
no subject
She looks again at the hands and choses to risk it. "I thought you speedsters learned to speed heal through speeding up your metabolism."
no subject
Jesse looked at her hands some more. "Once they're burned, I can heal them, yes. The ice just prevents further damage."
Jesse paused, and looked up. "Happy New Year. Any resolutions you want to share? Any goals I can remind you of in June?"

Jesse followed Donna's gaze up to the stars. "I always wonder how much of the space dust and shuttle parts we leave up there is visible. I know you can see the satellite."
no subject
"Do you remember anything from being out there? anything at all?"
no subject
Jesse shifted from looking at the stars to looking at the warehouse. "I don't like not remembering things, but if I have to have a memory gap, which is kind of a occupational hazard, I like the hypertime fog."

She paused, and then looked more serious. "Are you hurt? Who were you patrolling with?"
no subject

She looked back at the hole in the wall in the warehouse. "The shooting has stopped. The police have come to pick up folks. We're down to helping with paperwork, whenever asked to assist, which may require comic relief to get through with our sanity."
Jesse looked him up and down. "Happy New Year. Anything fun happen to you? Any amusing resolutions?"

"I notice you've left yourself a loophole there. Taking over the world by accident is fine, so long as you weren't attempting to do so?"

"However... I can totally see trying to get him to wear them for the next big charity bash we get invited to. People will pay more, and bid more in the auction if he's showing off the items in his short shorts..." Jesse smiles an evil grin.
"I'll have to remember that. I'll bring it up sometime when he's feeling generous."
